As I lay awake at 4:00 AM this morning I began contemplating if I could get into some Western Washington Crappie. A light breakfast and a few cups of coffee later, I kissed the wife and headed out the door by 6:00. Float tube inflated, 3wt rigged up and fishing within an hour. My game plan for the day was to fish water 10-15 feet deep trolling until I can locate some fish. I tolled around the lake for about an hour with nothing to hand other than a few trout. After switching spools on my reel and using a floating line with a small popper I began fishing the Lilly Pads, within five minutes I was into the Crappie. I ended the morning around 11:00 with 17 Crappie to hand, another dozen or so LDR'd and many many short strikes. All and all a great day and one hell of a tasty dinner tonight.
That is great! I'm glad you had a chance to locate and catch some. They are one of my favorite fish to catch on the fly. Top water action with crappie is always entertaining. Fun! Fun! Fun!
Damn those filthy trout getting in the way of some good panfishing! Good job on the crappie! I think I'm going to have to get out and chase some bluegills this weekend.
