Been fishing lately way too much to be bored. But thought I'd throw up a couple recent pics. Fishing has been hot everywhere around here. Been getting lots of grand slams and nearly a triple double. Even some firsts. Caught a cutthroat in Rufus the other day, and a brookie. Both firsts in the upper section. I've caught brookies downriver over 10 miles where there are some tribs in the area. Never a cutthroat. They are common up near Northport though. Bass are warming up around here. The next month should be prime for throwing poppers to big bucketmouth. I've been scouting a new lake that used to be known for panfish, but it seems largemouth have taken over and have gotten quite big! As its walking distance from home and only allows non-motorized boats, I'm looking forward to seeing what this lake is going to kick out. I have a good view of it while tying flies, and I haven't seen one boat on it in over a year and a half. The brookie had just been attacked by an eagle, yet still bit my fly, open bleeding wound and all. Watching that eagle come down fifteen feet from me and make a grab was one of the most surreal moments of my life. Too bad I fumbled my camera. As I was putting the camera away that little turtle popped up next to the boat so I scooped him up for a pic before sending him on his way. The spotted up gold rainbow was one of the prettier wild fish I've got lately, so I snapped a quick pic. I let dozens bigger go without a picture, but this one caught my eye. A two foot bow that reminded me what my backing knot looked like. And enlightened's boats maiden voyage and the first fish caught. I had a hell of a time christening that boat. The bottle just wouldn't break.
You know you are not allowed to pull native steel out of the water for pictures, no way those are trout! Great report, and I love the title. Ira
You better be sorry Triploid! Nice report. I was out yesterday to a W. Washington lake. All cookie cutter 12-13 inchers. Lots of them, fat, but the day was nice. I couldn't keep them off my callibaetis emerger and must have C&R'd two dozen fish in less than 3 hours. Better than sitting at home!
very true.I spent the day on the bench cause I threw my back out. At least I threw it out hooking a fish. I was standing on a boulder swinging streamers in the fast water when a big one grabbed. At that instant, the hookset most likely the culprit, the boulder rolled out from under my feet l. I landed in front and the boulder rolled over my leg. The only thing that saved me a broken leg was jerking it out at the last second. My leg is shredded but not broke ane trapped. My cell phone was in my truck and when I limped back I realized my keys were locked inside as well. Dumbass. If I hadn't ripped my leg free I would have been in much more trouble than I realized. Today I was finally feeling it.
Sorry about your injury. It is a dangerous world out there sometimes. Hope you heal fast and show us some more great pictures.
Not steel but close. On a chrinomid. Hooked one in the same spot the day before that was much bigger and straightened both flies.
I have this mental image of you with a pocket knife a la Aron Ralston - that guy in Utah who had to hack off his arm to save his life when trapped by a boulder....
I fell one time when I was fishing Pilchuck Creek. I reached out to grab a branch to steady myself when I was stepping down off of a bank. Well the branch didn't hold me and I fell about four feet on to a bolder. I kind of landed on my ass and my back against the bolder. Needless to say I sat there for about 10 minutes getting myself in order. When one fishes alone like I do I should take better care to where I put my hands. Since then I know my limitations and don't do things like that anymore. I got to thinking just now and could probably write a book on the falls I've had when fishing. Once a Klutz always a Klutz.
