Haven't been on this board for a few years! Now that my kids are a bit older I can sneak away a bit more. Today I get a few hours to drag a friend to a beach to look for cutts. I'm in Olympia, and recently noticed my favorite (private) beach is now posted no fishing.!!?!?? Anyway, I have a good understanding of what's in the water and when, but wondering if anyone out there can give me a general idea of a good spot in Olympia area - not including Hood Canal. I'm thinking maybe Tolmie st park?
Tolmie is sandy and sluggish since it's in such a deep bay. You want a gravelly substrate with a steady current for src. It is kind of limited here in the deep south without a boat, since it is the bottom of the barrel and all the bulkheads have screwed up the flow of sand and gravel. Plus many of the best beaches are private. A search on this location should provide some options. Walker County Park in Shelton has been good, and TESC beaches except that it's posted. They don't really have the right to prohibit fishing there, but there is a sign, and they can harass you.
Thanks Don, good to know about Tolmie, saved me a drive. I'm used to TESC beach, I was really bummed when I saw that sign. Anyway, will probably just hit a friends private beach on Eld. I just need to get out and cast. Thanks for the reply- Scott
