My son Forest and his buddy took this nice 5x5 with grandpa's old .06, one shot did the trick. The boys were on a mountian top somewhere outside Bozeman, MT. They had to share some meat with the local cougar before he would let them off the mountain. Good shot boys!!
Gary Gary Gary Gary...you can't mention cougar and not tell the entire story! Nice picture...nice shooting (don't see a scope), Grandpa's sights are still shooting straight!
As told to me by an excited young man. Forest and Ron (guy in pic) had to spend the nite on the mountain and the cat got into the gut pile that nite. Then got into some of the hind quarter while they were hiking out the first load of meat. Forest said it was pretty cool to be cooking meat on a stick while the cat was munching on the guts. One would sleep for a while then the cat would scream and nobody slept after that.
That is awesome. I have a JC higgins 30.06 from my Dad that was my first 06. Those things mean a lot when handed down.
I still shoot birds exclusively with my grandfather's 1100. I hope to find the farm that he hunted quail on in Missouri someday. I'd like to shoot a couple birds over my dogs with that gun there one day - full circle.
Nice bull your son got! That would be an absolute blast. As for the cat, its really cool to see them in the wild. Ive only seen one, it was staring right at me and man I felt a little nervous since I only had a fly rod in hand, luckily it walked off after 30 or so sec later. However it wouldnt be cool IMO to see one munching on my hind quarter. lol My great grandfather was a gunsmith and over genererations I was passed down this sportorized springfield, however Im not quite sure on the caliber because there are NO markings on the barrel, cool gun non the less though. Wouldnt mind shooting it but it seems Im gonna have to take it to a local gunsmith. Jake
