Steelhead Question

    Not if it's on a tight line or has a float above it that puts tension on the line as soon as the business end stops. The hook should be set before a fish has a chance to swallow it. I seriously can't remember the last time I hooked a fish deep with any method, bait, lure, or fly. The only time I've kept a fish in the last few years just because it was in bad shape was a silver that got the leader wrapped in his gills and bled out before I even landed him.

    I wasn't talking just about steelhead \ salmon - but bait fishing in general with that quote above. If you read on, I do mention that salmon\steelhead rarely 'swallow' the bait.
