Well you didn't say summer run or winter run, but for cost and quality you can't beat WW Grigg rods, matched with an Okuma reel. Outdoor Emporium can outfit you with rod, reel, line and backing for about $100, and thats a SA Ultra3 line, not real junk. The Grigg rods are a moderate/fast action, plenty fine for casting. They aren't waranteed, but at $35-40 who needs a warantee? Besides, they aren't super stiff, so they don't need one, as they don't explode while casting.

The other alternative is to build your own rod, and you will likely get it for more than half of the purchase price.

For summer run, I would fish 5-7, and for winter, I would fish 7-9.

I don't think Outdoor Emporium has a website but I can vouch for that price. A buddy of mine got a 5/6 wt setup (rod, reel, line, backing) for $97. He broke the rod the first trip out (stepped on it) and took it back. They sent it back in for him and just gave him a new one off the rack.

BTW, they have pretty amazing prices on fly lines. Cheaper than Cabela's. :EEK

Dude, that sounds like a pretty sweet deal. Is that the regular price?
    Where is Outdoor Emporium?

If you can get to REI in downtown seattle, its 3 blocks north and one block west on Pontius Ave. Not that I know the address.

And to vouch for the rod, its a WW Grigg 2 piece (and for that price you need to buy a tube) that costs like $35 and yu will have to pry it out of my hands. Guide wrapping is not epoxied, so it does wear out in a year or 2, but either maintain it, or have a rod building buddy epoxy it for you. I just redid mine, with custom purple/red wraps.

I purchased an 8wt set up from them WW Grigg rod, Argus reel, backing and line for 134.00. The store is very helpful and without the attitude of some shops.

    Have fun and good luck.
