And a big purple one to throw on a tip when it gets a little hotter than you had hoped for and the viso goes down. Or your cast goes to shit cause cold beer in the warm sun is a rare treat here in the PNW...

All you need is a big nasty intruder for summers! I won't drop down my fly size until the dog days of summer hit.

Do you want to catch fish or do you want to look "cool" throwing cool looking flies? If you want to catch fish, then NYMPH my dude, and NYMPH hard... Don't worry bout them haters, let the beads, copper johns, caddis larvae, scuds, San Juan worms and grhe's and the soft hackle flies do the talking. ;). By the way, you can swing any of those at the end of your drift for extra measure and get gnarly strikes. # winning!

you can swing beads, and pegging a bead 1.5"-2"=less likely of a gut hook.

are you fishing for fun, or numbers ? watching a boober go under isfun when your 6 years old. grownups might appreciate a wild steelhead as a special treat, and not just one of many conquests caught or snagged the easiest way possible. tug is the drug. skate it or hate it. most of us started out gear fishing and know what thats like. it does put fish in that cooler tho. the excitement is in the tight line. not beacause its rad, because if we needed to catch that many fish, we'd still be dunkin worms. go greased muddler :D

to an obvious fly angler, converting over to that kind of gear fishing and facial snagging must seem about as attractive as a date with a jihaddist transsexual

There is a fine line between having standards and being "elitist". I prefer hot chicks to fat chicks, Sierra Nevada to Ranier, steak to hot dogs, and swinging to nymphing.

Now, I have tried fat chicks, Ranier, hot dogs and nymphing. I'm old enough to have determined what my standards are. I drink Ranier occasionally, have 2 dogs or so per year, but nymphing and fat chicks just are not fun. I am honestly and truly amazed that people nymph. If racking up numbers were the goal, I'd fish spoons for summer fish whatever my gear fishing friends fish for winters. That would be numbers plus fun.

I always get frustrated with painting non-nymphers as "haters". Do we also paint those of us who don't screw fat chicks "haters". We all have different standards. Just like I don't jusdge my friends with piggy wives, I don't jusdge nymphers. I do not however, understand and I would not promote or flaunt doing what they are doing.

    Go Sox,
