almost any fly will work really. the main thing is water temperature. early in the year with the water colder the fish wont move as far to a fly as they will later. I am planning on using a type 4 tip during june and an assortment of G.P.s, large hairwings, and marabous. After the 4th of july though you wont catch me fishing anything but a dry line. They'll crush dries.

#1 secret to catching steelhead = finding steelhead. if they're around, they're aggressive

You should see what will considers a dry... With enough Gink, even a globug floats (for a while!)....

A friend of a friend who works at the sol duc hatchery said that 12 summer runs swam in 2 days ago.

now james, you know I view fishing glo bugs as morally deplorable and unsporting. I much prefer a sand shrimp tied on a riffle hitch, really slays!

I vote that it should be illegal to use the word steelhead for 7 days. :beathead: Almost there  I feel like a 10 year old waiting for christmas morning.

Certainly not true. Have you ever fished for Settled in Skamanias? It's like swinging to a rock:beathead:

Rock is usually buzzing in my head while I'm swinging too.

May my first steelhead come on a Lemire Greased Liner that I tied on my own. Should I do that, my dry-fly fishing life will be whole and complete. I want nothing more and nothing less. Sock it to me! Nuff-Said.

The Kalama, East fork, North Fork, Washougal, Sandy, Cowlitz, and the Deschutes. High bank it, easy to find em, they don't always react to the fly, no matter where you are at, especially if you don't present the fly right.

Boy, if that is the case then somebody needs to re-write the regs so they are not so ambiguous.
