We packed up and moved to Pagosa Springs, CO two weeks ago and as expected found ourselves in fly fishing paradise. Will miss the steelhead for sure but there are 7 rivers within an hour and all the creeks that feed them in the high country. The San Juan runs through town and we're looking forward to the hatches coming off on the Rio Grande in a few weeks on the other side of the mountains just 45 minutes away. Saturday found us on the Animas just South of Durango where this big brown welcomed me to Colorado. I'm like a kid at Disneyland- so much to do.
Beautiful country there. I have fished the San Juan below Navajo Dam several times, but never made it into Colorado to fish. Good job!
My old friend Johnny Unger, and his wife Lori, own Boss Tin - and they live right there in Durango. One of my favorite places in Colorado, if not the US, as well.
I have done a driving/fly fishing trip through there several times. It has always been enjoyable. Like you said, many places to fish within a short distance.
