I am getting ready to build a switch rod. I have been thinking I would build on the Rainshadow 7 weight blank. One thing I have been having trouble finding is info on Switch rod grip lengths and where to get them. Some of the info I have found has looked like 11" front and 4" rear is about normal? Any advice? I really like the Grips used on the Beulah Switch Rods. Would I have to custom spin these or does anyone know a supplier? Are Both the Front and rear grips inletted? Advice on Reel Seats? Favorite Guides? Thanks for any advice. Josh
Here is one that Batson offers. Its a great handle and sure makes the build go faster. 11.75" fore and about 4.5" rear with the butt cap.
Josh, May want to try asking Beluah if they will sell you one. I asked them this at the fly show a few years ago and they said something like, "hmmm, well, maybe we can set you up" They sell blanks so selling the grips wasn't an odd concept at the time although obviously not something they do routinely (or ever). The worst that can happen is that they will say no. The price may be up there - they have nice grips.
I had Steve at Beulah do a centerpin handle for me, but they had to turn it on the blank. I just sent him the seat and a drawing. Steve is one of the best handle builders I've ever seen. I will try to post a pic if I can find one.
I can build you one if you would like. I dont know if thats something you want to do on your own or not.
Yo Josh, If you haven't been to Tyler's site, you should...beautiful work. Thanks again for the road trip...my liver is feeling better today. Enjoy your time in the big city. Ed
