The Tirino, a spring creek in Central Italy 2010-03-06

  1. Was on the Tirino yesterday, a week after I had my 2010 Opening Day disaster, reported on the UK Forum. The Tirino is a spring creek about 110 miles from Rome at an elevation of about 1,500' ASL, and fishing on it is heavily regulated. I did the Fly and Spin-fishing only section -- maximum bag 5 fish above 10 in. -- where you can literally park and fish! It was a brilliant sunny day, but chilly, although the temperature went from 30F when I arrived at about 7.30 a.m. to 50F at 3.30 p.m. when I left.

The fish were quite spooky but my 8' Granger was in play throughout the day, I was using a Barrio DT5F line which proved to be fantastic. Biggest fish caught weighed about 2.5 lbs. Right now the river is loaded with stockie browns, I took 3 home to provide the main course at today's multi-generational family lunch.
