Hopefully, the Russians weren't driving BMW's.
What are ya gonna do when the Muslins move in from Detroit? (No comment)
O.K. I'll comment, I'm going fishing, with fly rod in hand.
Yeah like Duff's problem is how he wants to break punk ass fly fishermen with strike indicators in half.
coach hit it square per usual, with the added bonus of a new! improved! phonetic spelling of the term "xenophobia"...:thumb: love the Coach. You de man
any excuse to be a hater will do, any minor difference can trigger the us/them aspect of the human personality. Look at the black-on-black atrocities in Africa between neighboring tribes or the way our PNW tribes treat each other, every tribe badmouthing the rest. That is pure DUMMITY (new word, add to dictionary) but that's humanity for you, including us. I've been known to refer to gear fishermen as "chuckers" and complain about them...I'm guilty as everyone else is in their own way.
There's good reasons to dislike snaggers and cheer for enforcement. It's a real crime, real dumb, and hurts other people and the environment, particularly the future of the environment. Whatever accent or ethnicity the snagger has, they should ALL be led from the river in handcuffs and we should burn their gear on the riverbank and dance around it. (then clean up after ourselves).
Most would agree, and know from experience, that the worst offenders of all in disregarding regs are the local people who live nearby, particularly those who own riverbank property. That's been my experience anyway. That's why we need to be out there with cellphones and cameras;
So true. I get a bad taste in my mouth talking to the locals on the Nooksack during winter steelhead season where I usually hear comments like this, "I caught a 22 pound, 3 and a 1/4 ounce native last week! It was a fighter!".
Yes, Muslin is very dangerous, especially due to its high flammability (being made of cotton and all). I didn't realize it was enjoying a revival in modern-day Detroit. I thought its popularity died out in the early to mid 1800's.
they fight especially hard when there's a spin-n-glow stuck in their ass...(sigh).
I wasn't singling out Russians in particular. It could just as well been "unhappy American/Englishman/Frenchman/Martian". I've seen good and bad in every race/nationality/ethnic group. I was just glad to see the S.O.Bs. sitting in their van, looking mighty unhappy.:thumb:
I can state with relative authority there is NO revival of any kind going on in modern-day Detroit, especially my beloved Tigers.:beathead:
I forgot what I was going to say. bawling:bawling:bawling:bawling:bawling:
Coach (I'll address this to you, even though the message properly belongs to many who have chimed in),
While I agree with your statement about a bit of -ism in all of us and the need to be cognizant, in order to minimize, if not eliminate, it, I think you rant was a bit overboard in its condemnation of "people who pull out the racism card." Your comment seemed intended to inflame a situation while clearly pointing a finger at those who would press for tolerance and praising someone who would express intolerance.
Bonefish Jack gave a very mild reprimand to Gary's rather abrupt condemnation, certainly his comments didn't merit the sort of reply you gave. 509's comment was strictly tongue in cheek, which I think anyone familiar with his prior posts would recognize (and which should have been clear without such familiarity). I don't see any posts in this thread that merited your outburst.
I suspect you are a great coach; you certainly know how to incite emotions and make a mountain of a molehill. I hope your players know how to balance that in their 'real' lives.
Richard (I'll address this just to you) you are full of shit. Simple as that. The "molehill" (some guys caught poaching) became a mountain as soon as the R world (racist for all of you keeping score) was introduced improperly and introduced without proper definition by our fellow angler Bonefish Jack. Hence my post commenting that the last 10 times or so I've seen it used, it was used by someone who didn't even know what it meant. I stand by what I said even more so now. The word is arguably the most inflammatory word used in today's English language and you had better have good cause to use it in any way, especially directing it at someone else. Nice try Richard, I'm sure you'll take another swing soon. Tight lines Duff
PS I quit coaching a ways back. I guess you missed that.
And Coach, I will address this to you ... take a look at the second post, from Gary, where he introduced the word "racist" ... I was simply responding to his comment that he did not want to appear racist ...
Sorry, but you have to read the stuff before you go off ...
I try to be respectful in all of my posts, even the one you took umbrage with. By contrast, inflammatory rhetoric seems to be your stock and trade on this site.
And, I also did not like the use of the word "racist" ... which is why I said "ethnically biased" ... which I feel is really more accurate in this case
I stand behind my backing of Gary, and I stand behind what I said. If either of you think even suggesting another poster has make ethnically biased or racist insinuations is okay, then I know both of you are full of shit. Simple as that. By the way "Bonefish" let's say the poachers are of Russian descent or Russian Nationals. Now how do we refer to them in the proper PC way? Teach me. I'm ready to learn the "right way".
Coach, how about just "poachers"?
My question is, what does Russian have to do with it? If they were from Oregon, would you say "Oregonian" poachers? And, would that be relevant? I would suggest, it would be relevant only if you were ethnically biased ...
Have you ever said anything like "Unhappy Americans on the Stilly"? I imagine not. Again, because it would not be relevant ... unless you were ethnically biased ...
And my whole point was ... who cares where the poachers are from? I am just glad they were caught ...

I hear you. I love your PC lean though. It's the exact thing I try to avoid in my life. All it does is suppress true thoughts and feelings and lead to explosions down the line. If you are honest and tell the truth, I know where you stand and can confront you, attempt to educate you or walk away. In your bullshit world, I have no idea what anybody means, believes or stands for until something shitty happens. It's all whitewashed and hidden in PC drivel. But that is what PC is all about. Hiding from reality right? If the poachers were Russian, than Gary can call them Russian. I value your opinion but disagree with you "Bonefish". And I'd love to debate further, but I am walking out the door to go sightfishing for the biggest bonefish in the world, like I do every day. Tight lines "Bonefish" Duff
