I was tying some waterdog patterns, and thought it might add length/action with a w-shank, but was wondering if others have tried this, do you tie the front or rear first? How do you hold the shank in the vise? I use a Regal vise, but it might be tough to put the shank in its jaws. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Put the shank in the vise sideways and then rotate your vise head so that the shank lies flat. Tie from the back to the front. If you go to irishangler.com and look at his tying instructions for an intruder, you will see a picture of how to mount the shank.
