    Hello all.
Buddy just gave me a pile of Vertical Grain Doug fir lumber and plan to build a set of oars. Problem is that I don’t know anyone nearby that I can take measurements and get a pattern. Plan is to laminate the shaft and blade using a combination of woods, ash for the center, fir for the mid lamination and some walnut for outer detail of the shaft and blades and have some left over copper sheeting to protect the tip of the blade. Sure could use some advice.

Making a set of oars is super simple, and fiberglass is your friend on the blades. You can make the blades any shape and style you want, just be sure to match the sides laterally, so they are stable in the water. Just pull some overall dimensions online, and go from there.
