There's a Chum season?
Floaters work great with sparse flies as mentioned (weighted or unweighted) but if there is a lot of Bob Marley (salad) floating around a sinking line with a blood knot 4-5' up from the fly can be the difference between fish and no fish. Knot will collect the salad and not the fly on each retrieve. Don't be afraid to experiment too if there are other people around or they have been hammered.
for a line. Airflo 40+ intermediate with the green head works great and cast great. that what i use. also 5 year warrenty. for tippet12-15lbs is fine. watch in shallow they can spook easy. also tie up some royal blue in the same patterns. if they stay away from chartreuse royal blue is a fantastic alternative.
I use a Rio Outbound floater and a 8-12 foot leader of Maxima 10 lb test. I then use flies that are unweighted, light bead head and then heavy beadheaded (Depends on current, depth or how fast I am stripping). The less weight I have found is better.......less foul hookups. Remember to fish above or at fish level not under them.
