will note at Rattlesnake that ya'll leave way too early. Very few anglers have been fishing this lake compared to years past probably due to high fuel prices. Stick around for some late night fun. The biguns take nymphs beginning a few hours before the onset, and continue taking them during and after the hatch. Callibaetis nymphs are killer before the hatch, and callibaetis cripples/flashbacks just rock. Callibaetis in tan, very small right now at Rattlesnake. Pulling buggers/leeches all day is fine, but come 3pm switch it up and stay longer than 7pm if time allows! Tight Lines, RSFG

I've had some really good day's fishing for smallmouths on the fly...30-50 day's can be had in may, june, and early july. This time of year the fish are just begining to move into the shallows for the spawn so the fishing can be a bit spotty but still good...

Most of the fishing I do out there is on the spokane river arm...upriver from porcupine bay...but I think the fishing is pretty consistent throughout the system. The key is to find the shallow bay's and inlets...with some nice sandy/small gravel areas. Right now I would go with weighted olive or black (although white has been killer at the right times) streamers...fished on a full/intermediate sinking line right on the bottom. The best producing pattern for me overall has been a bright olive seal bugger with an olive hotcone head...tie 'em big and ugly.

This time of year your best bet will be to troll around the shallows looking for bit's of structure...very slow...just fast enough to keep the fly off the bottom. When you hook up just drop the anchor and fish the heck out out of that area...you'll probably find a few more in the same area. When it slows down just start trolling again.

Good luck...smallies on the fly are a ton of fun!!
