I got the fluorocarbon 10# when I read it sinks faster than 10# Maxima. 4' of tippet loop to looped to 14" of 20# mono leader is were I am now. Like the idea of nail knotting the tipped to get rid of the loop to loop connection. Can't remember the last time I tied a nail knot!
As for mending immediately, I usually do. Should I be throwing in a foot or two of slack with the mend? Was going to give that a go today, but the roads still are too rutty to get my car to the river.
Could you elaborate a bit on the Rio Versa Tip and what you would recommend.
    Thanks for all the help.

Thats a pretty good cfs to fish for the EFL, by tomorrow it may be 850+ cfs. That will bring some more fresh fish into the system. Depending on the flow and depth of course, type 4 is kinda whimpy, I agree perhaps your not reaching the fish. The Rio Versa Tip is great for this reason. Tomorrow to make do, just use a #4-6 bead head wooly bugger or leach, nail not about 4' of 12# maxima ultra green, cast slightly upstream and throw in a large upstream mend immediately. If your fishing within 18" of the bottom your good to go. I wouldn't waste your money on flourocarbon, steelhead aren't leader shy.

East Fork is running as low as the Washougal, in which case I like the Washougal better (closer to home). Can't wait 'til we get some good winter flows...high but not blown out and about 2' -5' of visibility...water like that gives me confidence in winter and spring. Either river you choose have fish in them.

Since the water is so low and cold, concentrate in the deeper pools and runs, slow down your presentation, get it down with out hanging up and fish something small and bright....all the standard winter swing tactic stuff, my only change to the standard forumla would be the fly color. You can nymph too, I'm the wrong person to ask about such tactics...not that I'm against it, just never really got into it.

I got to go with you on the East Fork Sometime, I'd really like to get to know the area better by the maintenance sheds where you got that fish. I've only fished that area a few times and every time I hiked in from Daybreak, which is a long walk and wade. Also would like to explore the waters above Lewisville Park.

When the roads clear lets head out and trade secrets. James.
