I didn't even try to hunt when I was out in Washington. Thought about trying for ducks, but the fishing always took precedence. Out here I've got to figure out how to work big game, waterfowl, and fall fishing into a workable calendar.
I'll see how this upcoming deer/elk season goes, and ducks are right after that ends. I'll have more information to process then, but I'm not getting any younger, and it's not like I haven't had the chance to bring home the bacon:
Our season out here has been pretty much a bust. It's been warm, and every day either the Canadian fires or our own have been stinking up the air. Some days it's been pretty bad. One of my buddies got an elk, but nobody's seen hide nor hair of any deer--until yesterday, when 3 does sauntered through my back yard, right in front of the archery target. Of course, I was doing some painting on a dovecot that needed to be recovered (goes on top of our roof), and my bow was nowhere nearby......figures!

The new camo, Alex - painter's coveralls and a Sherwin-Williams hat . . . a number of years back during the late archery Elk season in the Tucannon, we dropped into a canyon in the dark where we had spotted 17 head come out to feed on the prior evening. The Elk eluded us and it was a tiring, hot climb out when a Chinook blew-in. When we got to my truck, we saw that all the Elk had crossed passing on both sides of the truck - I swear a couple of them must have had to duck to avoid the side mirrors. You never know . . .
Congrats on your draws and your success. I've brought home a few elk from the Gros Ventre Wilderness area in Wyoming, I love it over there. Hunt the mornings then back to base camp for breakfast and maybe a quick nap then grab the fly rod and hit the streams and beaver ponds for the early afternoon. Then back out for the late afternoon till dark hunt. Wash, rinse and repeat for a week, good times. I've also brought home a few antelope from Montana and I find it to be my favorite game meat. Good luck filling your remaining tags.
Second weekend was great; got up close with a moose and her calf, did some miles, and got into some elk. They busted us before we got a shot, but what a rush. Got home Sunday in time for some cold front waterfowling!
