Finally made it up to Pass. Started feeling sick a couple hours before I left work Friday afternoon but was sure the feeling would pass. By Seattle I knew better. I ended up crashing in the rest area just over the bridge past Pass for the night. Wow, that's a busy road. Was feeling no better when I put in just before light, but I drove too far to not fish. Stayed close to the outhouse most of the day with the exception of a quick row to the far end of the lake. Did well early in the AM (6 bows and 1 brown) and then picked up a few more bows here and there until late in the afternoon when I Hopped out for a quick nap in the back of the car. Got back out on the water hoping to make it for the evening bite but by then I was wrecked. Packed it up and got a room at Lake Campbell Lodging. Felt even worse in the AM and drove home. I'm already thinking about my next trip to Pass, I just hope my stomach is ready. All but 3 of my fish came on a size 6 green zonker, the other 3 I caught on a size 8 Hale bop leech in green as well. Aside from being sick and not getting as much time on the water as I would have liked I did get some much needed time fishing. Attached are a couple of my fish. I had to use my wife's camera and the date is wrong.
Sorry the bug hit you like that. Gotta love the timing. I wondered if you were one of the 2 guys who got in that morning. I figured the back wall area was producing like the point since you were both staying put. Soon as it slowed I made a beeline for the orchard and stayed there. Sometime after 4 I headed back for the point to see if that was you and join up for the evening circus...sorry I ended up missing you (the bite was terrible, I promise you didn't miss a thing :clown.
Glad you nailed some while you were there and nice pics! Yell when you come up again..
Did you drive all the way from Portland? That would be some serious dedication especially with the cold and being sick, glad you were able to catch a few (nice brown too). Never thought of Pass as a destination for anyone that lives more than an hour away. Maybe I just think that way being so close to all the quality BC lakes just a few hours North of here.
Fender, that was me. I could not get too far from the outhouse. I never get sick, except when I have plans like this. Will definitely be back. Thanks for the tips. Plecoptera, it is definitely a destination fishery for me in January. Not much going on this way this time of year and it has been years since I fished for browns.
Great report! Way to tough it out and stick some dandy fish! Well done. Hopefully next time you will be in better shape.
