ed, why are you naked in your avatar? kinda creepy... reminds me of buck.
i just found out today(well i think) that my flies are a skunk. dont know for sure.
My flies were sent to you this morning. I have included a postage paid return envelope with my flies. I hope you like em. I have attached a picture of the fly if you look closely you can see it in the roof of the steelhead's mouth.
Originally I was going to send out flies left over from last season. Instead I tied up a bunch of my favorite unweighted swung pattern called the "Half Ass". It is a soft hackle. It was designed for fishing in the surface scum, or the first couple of inches under it. This is one of my three go-to-flies during the warmer part of the fall season in the drainages where the fish are keying on October Caddis. It also makes a great comeback fly after a miss when skating topwater.
The way I prefer to fish it is to cast about 30 degrees down and acros. Mend once big and let the fly dead drift for a few feet. Fish it all the way to the hangdown and make sure you wait a good few seconds after the fly stops before beginning the next cast. This pattern is generally fished in the slower water where it is partially glassy on top with current lines if fished unweighted with a floating line. It will fish anywhere when using the appropriate sink tip.
Should have them out in the mail in the next day or so.
Thanks guys! Matthew dropped his off in person so I'll start photographing and posting to the gallery (already set up) this weekend.
Headed to the post office this morning.
finished my flies tonight. After I tied up a couple of spey variations of a green-butt skunk, I decided that I didnt really get what I was looking for. So I settled for a nice, small october caddis type low water soft hackle, hell it might even pass off as a small shrimp as well....you get the idea. Should be in the mail in the next few days.
I've received flies from:
First sets of photos are posted:
Please get them in the mail by this Friday as I'm mailing everything out the following Friday, June 12th.
I noticed the pics of my fly weren't up yet so I double checked with my wife that she sent it out the other day. She said it didnt go out until Friday, and that it was $4.00. I only enclosed $2 so I may have to send you a couple more bucks this week.
Don't worry about the extra postage Jeremy. I'll let you know when they get here.
Added Jeremy's fly, the 'Half Ass".
I think a better name would have been "Bad Ass" cause it's just that...
I hate the red cast caused by the rendering in the galleries. The actual files are much more neutral.
Guys, hope you don't mind, but I switched my pattern to a Steelhead Caddis. I had just tied up a bunch of speys for the face to face swap and decided that I was in the mood to try something new and different for me.
I think that's great. Seems like we're short on the dry flies.
Thanks for the kind words Thomas. Hope all of you guys enjoy the ties.
