Varnish for a bamboo

I always used McClosky's Man O'War Spar Varnish. I was so directed by "Right foot forward" Dawn Holbrook who taught me to build bamboo rods. No complaints, and I'll use it again.

You'll want to find out what type of varnish was originally used on the rod. Very often one is not compatible with another.

If you can't find out the original varnish it may be worth an attempt at guessing and spot varnishing, but don't rule out the possibility that the rod will need to be stripped and re-varnished entirely.

Not a big deal, some bamboo repair men do a wonderful job at restoration work, as such a fate awaits all cane rods eventually.
