I'm heading up to fish the Methow (along with everyone else, sounds like!) and will be taking a spey rod. My question, is my 5120 Sage enough rod, not for casting, but handling the fish? I was on the Grande Ronde last week and caught a nice wild hen, the rod would have been perfect there, but I opted for my 8 wt. not knowing the river.

    Thanks for any info.

I love that rod with a dry line on smaller waters/lighter fall patterns for fish to 10lbs.

    David,

that would be a great rod for the met. and just a heads up before you get hammered on here, or get a ticket fishing somewhere, it is illegal to take native fish, like the one your son is holding, out of the water, even just for a second for a picture. it is a goofy law, one that many don't agree with, but practicing it is safe for the fish and i have heard of people getting hit on it on the methow.

I fished the Ronde a few weeks ago with a 5120 and hook a nice steelhead also. I thought the rod was to light to effectively fight the Ronde fish. I went back to a 6124 after the one fish. I do use the 5120 when swinging for trout.

Thanks for replies, looks like I might need another rod to fill the gap between the 5120 and the 8139 VT2, darn! Can't wait to start shopping!

I would use the term "need" loosely..

The Echo2 6126 is nice little stick and would temporarily sate the rod collecting sickness for a very reasonable price. If you want to have a nice light 7 wt, Echo's Scandi is a great rod which would be a good value for the money spent. In my opinion the Scandi seems really easy to feel the rod load with Airflo's matching Scandi head.

J, I think you got mixed up here a little. There is no production Echo2 6126. There is however a Echo Dec Hogan 6126 and Classic 6126. Both of which I have used to catch fish on the Ronde and would use on the Methow. If there was an Echo2 version, I would own one :)!

That was Kraig that sent the last post, somehow he was logged into my account, but he is the best fly fisher that I've ever met. He taught me everything that I have every known about fly fishing when it comes to spey casting! Cool dude for sure!
