New Sage Rod series: The One

#76
Is it really that shocking that a manufacturer is going to use marketing to their advantage when trying to sell rods? A lot of posts in this thread make it sound like its never happened before. Yeah they avertise their new stuff, who cares. Nobody is forcing anyone to buy a rod... now as to the actual rod, I've cast it, and it blew me away, and some really sweet rods have come out recently.... I also cast it before I'd read anything about it, or had a clue what it was, the rep wouldnt tell me anything about it until after id cast it. The accuracy claim is no bs, its just a super accurate rod. Now, if you dont want one, obviousy dont buy one... or you can just argue about it online :)

I own 16 Sage Rods. I love them like my children, but to be honest, as much as I love them I don't see how the latest Series "One" could be any better than the previous models or have anything new that will enable any additional fishing success. I certainly don't need a seventeenth Sage Fly Rod. That being said, if I had the money I'd probably buy one. I can't help myself.

"The one"...LMAO!!! Go to this video from Talladega Nights, scroll to about 45 seconds and the way he says "formula One" is how the name of this rod should be pronounced "Unn"

I cast one of these yesterday, and it was nice, but not a game-changer. It didn't really cast much different than my 10+ year old DS.

I'll take your old hand me down Z-axis...
Not a bad way to go. It's how I buy most of my technology. Now that the Z-Axis is old hat, the price of a used one (little o) will get down to where I'd consider one (little o again). Still a damned nice rod. Probably have to move an XP or something of that vintage to afford it, but someone will take that off my hands. And in a few years when Sage comes out with The Two, maybe I'll sell another rod and buy a One (big O - Sage marketing will come to regret the unfortunate name they've given this fly rod).

This comes from "2011 Orvis Endorsed Fly Fishing Guide Of The Year"...... Surprised???
No, not surprised. He likes the Helios better than the other rods. Big deal. Top end rods from different manufacturers are all excellent rods. I haven't cast a Helios but wouldn't mind trying one. I could be a "Not Orvis Endorsed Fly Fishing Guide Of The Year" and prefer it to my Sage, Loomis etc. Just haven't fished one yet. Apparently DJ has and likes it better than the others.
