Well I made a feeble attempt to go out and throw a few flies around.. The weather is in the 60's with the wind coming out of the South.
Tried a Sprout Midge. It is a dry with a parachute. Nothing. Tried a two nymph setup with and emerger and a zebra nymph. Nothing there either.
I screwed up my right side last weekend. I bent over to get something I dropped on the floor. I either pulled a muscle or cracked a rib. I guess when you get as old as dirt you should watch what you do with your old body. I went up to the river today and came home on a back road. I felt every bump and jostle. None of it felt very good.
Now after throwing those fly's around and driving down a dirt road. I'll probably suffer tomorrow or tonight when I try to sleep. You have to be brave when you get old. Lots of aches and pains. And they come out of nowhere.
Sorry you are hurtin'. I'm only 37 and my body aches. I work out hard to try and avoid injury but it doesn't seem there is a day that goes by I'm not sore.
Can you share where you were fishing or was it a secret spot?

Have you tried a "Pinkie"? red thread base with just a bit of pink dubbing. When wet the red thread bleeds thru. Size 18 or 16. Were you throwing the dry to heads?
Jim, this may be of interest to you. If you can find a good yoga teacher near you, and you do it a few times a week, it could add years of fishing to your life. http://www.doyogawithme.com/content/yoga-seniors
Here is an example of what someone can do with a little determination.
Bob, my body is so hosed. I can't even bend over because of a bad back. I can't climb stairs because of my knees. Was going to have knee surgery but I opted out of that. Doc wanted me to lose about 50 lbs. When your young you can lose weight but when your in your 70's it doesn't come off that easy. I'm a walking cluster fuck. When I go to stand up on a river bank I go look for something to prop myself up with. I could quit fishing but then I don't know what else to do except just die.
Swimmy, I was on the Beaverhead at Pipe Organ access. Lots of people use this as this is where the open all year starts at.
Ed I. I have some pink flies. There was no risers. I was just to lazy to change the fly I had on. I might go out again tomorrow and I'll be sure to use my pink flies. It is supposed to be quite warm tomorrow. A high of 73.
I did head out today but it looked like everybody from Dillon was on the river. It is surprising as to what sunshine and nice weather do to folks. I don't like fishing in a crowd. I decided to wait until my side feels better. Don't like the aches and pains that go along with myself.
Dammit Old Man, stop with these threads, I was just getting to the point where I believed that the 70s were the good years, and you weren't old until you were 85 or more! You are starting to crush my bubble and I have a lot of streams still to wade!
So do I have more skinny water to ply. I didn't say I was dead, just slowed down. I was72 when I moved to Montana and I still could go all day. I feel fine it's my body that's giving me fits. I can still think clearly except I'm having problems with my thinking. I can't remember being 5 years old any more. I think my life started at the age of 9. That age I can remember things.
