Actually I was amazed at the reluctancy of people to actually call me and talk to me. I would even clarify that I preferred calls to text. But I got tons of people that would rather text back and forth for days rather than have a 5 minute conversation. I'm an old guy and texting, to me, is tedious. And if someone has ten questions that I can answer in 2 minutes aaaarg.. I would typically set up a meeting at the Denny's 2 blocks away. Easier for them to find and safer for me from thieves. Believe me Lue, Craigslist in San Diego was no fun at all.

Any public space is okay, but I have been using banks, especially when I'm buying. If I'm buying, I tell them that I will carry no cash, so we need to meet at my bank. If there is any questioning, I let the deal go.

The converse works when selling, just tell them you want the money deposited. Not many places have better security systems than banks. Casinos probably work.

Flu or not, and it's not right or wrong, but you gave the person a while to think about it or move on to something else. Also, sometimes a wife/partner finds out what is happening and nixes the deal. I know of a guy here on WFF who a few years back posted a WTB for a reel, got a few things lined up, then called it off claiming he had no budget left because his wife had blown it on a new purse.

Sometimes it happens. I hope you were able to sell your item.

That's Craigslist, and it happens whether a person is a seller or a buyer. My ex-wife and I once drove 3o miles, through rush hour traffic, to buy an advertised aluminum boat, to have the guy's wife come to the door and say her husband had just sold it to their neighbor. The guy wouldn't even come to the door. Last summer I set up a time and location to buy a bike from a CL dude; he didn't show at the place he selected, which was just a 1/2 mile from my house. I think the bike may have been hot (too good to be true price) and he got squirrelly after some of my detailed inquiries/questions.

    That's Craigslist.

I skimmed the thread title a little too quickly and read it as A man sword. And yet I still opened and read the thread...

As did I. However, back in the days when men carried swords, I'm thinking that the equivalent of Craigslist pesky malcontents didn't fare well . . . or for very long, either:D.

Unfortunately, we live more and more in a world of INSTANT communication.
Although, I agree with you, that kind of sucked for you..

I find myself pissed when I email somebody, and if I have not heard back in 24 hours, I am in shock and dismay. I sort of feel like we live in email 24/7, so why isn’t someone available immediately? (I’m judging myself here, not you)
