The echo ion is a rock solid reel. I am downright abusive with gear and it's held up really nice. I'm sure the lamson is sweet, but think of all the beads and nail polish you could've bought....

Heck yeah. I am getting out of work early today, and just discovered that The Avid Angler fly shop is literally along my new route home. Sooo, I am going to stop in there and say hello, and maybe get a couple things.

Hit the Stilly today. Seems everything is stupid low and clear. I would say the only thing good that came out of today was I got some really good spey practice. Thinking about saying fuck it and waiting for the weather to change and bring these rivers up. Gotta buy an intermediate tip as well. All in all I would love to simply write this day off the books.

Lets hope so. I know we have some weather coming in tomorrow but I am referring to weather that will make the rivers get in better shape more frequently. I hear that the sky fishing way better when its higher up.

I have a feeling it is going to be your lucky day tomorrow. I strongly advice not swinging though. Seems all the potential water I saw on the stilly was nymphing water.

Guys want a funny story? Here is a lesson I learned the hard way that I want to pass on for educational purposes.

Last saturday when I was out spey casting on the stilly I was getting very frustrated with how the 10 foot section of t-11 was hitting bottom constantly on the river when it was 350 cfs. I learned quickly this was the wrong tip to buy but due to budget constraints I could only afford one, and that was what I was told to buy by the Cabelas guy ( yes I know).

Sooooo what did I do? I cut the tip down to only 2 feet of t-11 thinking that it would get me off the bottom. Well it did but I started to get really bad piling with my casts fromt then on out.

What have I learned here that BASSTURDS clued me in on was the fact that the 10 ft of t-11 is there to aid in ancoring my line for my D-loop. So with that said. DO NOT CUT YOUR GOD DAMN TIP.

Also, if you are buying a new spey setup I can not stress enough that you need to buy atleast 3 tips that cover a wide enough range, or polyleaders if you choose to do that.

So heading to the Skagit this Saturday with the proper gear. Hopefully I will have better luck. I heard that the fishing has been pretty good last few days.

  13. no no your not we are going to the skagit

  14. you essentially have to completely modify your stroke if you run only 2 feet of sink tip.

    remember with skagit casting
3 to 3 1/'2 time your rod length

so with 12 footer you could run if you have 24 foot skagit max you could run 17 feet to 10 foot tip
