Andy Capp is a british no good layabout, I suspect if he went fishing all he'd catch is his britches, his cap, or grief from that cube of a wife seen in the strip above.
Lil' Abner, on the other hand, was 'Merican, written by Al Capp, had a cool land called Dogpatch filled with hillbillies and charlatans, which, in real life, was later imagined as an amusement park. Dogpatch, sho 'nuff, had a fishin' hole.
Dogpatch USA, the ill fated Arkansas Amusement park based around the shenanigans of Lil' Abner and his Hillbilly crew, had its day in the sun:
It included a heavily stocked trout pond, which may still be open. According to my buddy John M, who was reluctantly dragged to Dogpatch USA more than once in the early 80's by his well meaning parents, Dogpatch USA's trout pond was awesome.
Amen, Brother Boot! All hail the common man, Lil' Abner, who would be a sturgeon fisherman if he were alive today.
And while the B-Run Coho lay stacked one upon another in my favorite local river, I, will be painting our house this weekend.
This better be laying the gound work for winter steelhead season is all I have to say.
I go Pogo. "We have met the enemy and he is us."
How about adding Andy Google to this. Shit now I'm showing my Old Age.
