OK...you said the fittings are aluminum (which I think is what Speed Rail is...actually a special kind of alloy they say can be used with any pipe) but then said "steel speed-rail fittings are too heavy". Then what kind of fittings are they? I'm a little confused. I thought they were speed rail fittings. ???

One other question..those look like NRS oar mounts. In their catalog it says they fit 1 5/8" tube. How did you adapt those to the smaller tubing? Thanks!

The speed-rail fittings I use come in either glavanized steel or aluminum. There may be another brand that makes an alloy type fitting though...

Yes the towers are NRS. I just used a rubber grommet to make up for the difference in the pipe size. NRS tube is actually 1 1/4" 6061, but the O.D is 1 5/8".

I have that toon. I don't dare stand up in it though as I exceed the weight capacity of the platform. Overall it's nice. Bit too much for me but it works. Plan on putting a trolling motor on it this year.

Say Plecoptera...What is the width of your frame (outside to outside of the metal tubes) and how long are your oars? Are you happy with the oar length? Thanks!

I believe its around 58" at the outside of the frame tubes. The oars are just 7' carlisle's that I have from a Bucks boat, and they are definitely a little too short . The ideal oar would be about 8'. I've got my eye on the small Lamaglass carbon oars or a set of Mini Mags.

Hummmmm.....OK. My frame will be 55" to the outside of the metal tubes and then I'll use the NRS oar stands..6" I imagine. I ordered the 7 1/2 Mini-mags from NRS. I'm afraid they may be a tad short but we'll see. Cataract will make me 8's if I want but I figured it would be easier to return the 7 1/2's (their longest standard size) if I need to. I like my oars about 10" apart at my hands.

    Thanks for the info. Phil
