Except for the abrasion wrapping around the bog... I think I heard the fishing jumping behind him at one point.

Yes catch and release is considered cruel here in Germany and many other European countries. I couldn't disagree more. This will be one law I will be breaking in a daily basis and not lose sleep over it, especially when hooking up with wild trout and grayling. I think C&R is gaining in popularity here but a lot of damage has been done. That's why all the Germans are carp enthusiasts.... Everything else is dead or the water quality doesn't support it. Heck they even eat carp here like its a prime silver salmon steak... Bleh

The angler seems to be Norwegian. I thought he sounded familiar, and the title of the video is ørret i kulpen, and that's Norwegian (I'm pretty sure). I have no idea the location but my Dad cut peat for fuel as a kid so they must exist in Norway in relative abundance.

As a plus sized man, you couldn't pay me to walk out on a peat bog like that. Those places collected people and wildlife for thousands of years. Not as bad as ice or tar, but a good runner up.

This is a bit off topic but there is hope that the catch and kill law will change in Germany.

A team of researchers in Germany have concluded that fish cannot feel pain. Since the basis for catch and kill was that repeatedly catching a fish was akin to torture, this new study contradicts theassumption that is the basis for the catch and kill law.

Too bad we just can't ask the fish its preference. Sorry I caught you fish, but would you rather:
    a) be bonked on the head with a wooden club
    b) have your throat slashed
    c) have a sharp knife driven into your brain
    d) be released to (hopefully) live another day.

I've cast into openings in bogs before and caught fish doing it, but nothing as big as that one. I presume that his scale measured in kilograms, and that fish came in just over 1 kg, = 2.2 lbs! On light tackle he had to work to keep that fish from wrapping him up under the floating vegetation mat.

I understand where you are coming from in that C&R preserves the population of fish better than C and Kill

But if fish were sentient beings they would say that your choices are incomplete. It would choose e) not be caught at all, which is what PETA wants people to believe. It is a slippery slope when we consider a hypothetical situation in which a fish "thinks" rather than how we fishers can both use and preserve the resource.

So was that grass a floating mass, or a thin crust of limestone through which one might fall. Nasty place to try to get out of! Could also be Swedish, since the languages are very similar. Sounded Norwegian, though. "Ya Sure, you betcha" covers both:D

    That was a cool vid.
Now that I understand what/how that pool was formed it would be a bit scary to walk around on.
To bonk or not to bonk was not the ? sometimes some of you guys make me scratch my head.
As a hunter and eater of meat, I got to kill it before I cook it.
Bonking is good, just my .02
