This little dingo is just about the best fishing partner a guy could ask for, doesn't spook pools, chases mice on the bank, no barking, easy carry, well behaved in a drift boat and patiently waits when told to :)

    Me and Orion.jpg

Okay when Orion went to the vet...Vet said he had an enlarged heart. Arrhythmia, his heart was playin' Mingus...so we knew he could keel over anytime...no swimming; which he loved and no "ball" or logging...he liked the biggest sticks and limbs...well we might have rolled a ball a bit over those final months. When I lost him, he seemed to pass on a bit of his heart condition and as poetry has been my therapy...I wrote...

    Dog

    I have this friend
    Who is a constant
    companion
    He looks to me
    With eyes of communion
I share my thoughts with him
    We adventure and roam
    smelling all the smells
    Some we have never known
    Yeah I have this dog
    My canine friend
    A spirit of such devotion
    it’s hard to comprehend
    We explore and relax
    Always finding simpatico
Like we were born to live
To sit and heel when we
    have have nowhere to go
    He is dog
    but has many names
    Just cog in a life
    Traversing all the same
    I call him buddy
    I call him pal
    But in truth I know
    He showed me how
    To enjoy life
    And live each day
    Like a friend should,who
    always wants to play
    My friend is dog
    And he knows it
    I share my dinner, and
he knows how to use it
    I think about dog
    all the time
    How I miss him
    That comfort sublime
    We sometimes gauge
    A life we have had
    By the devoted friends
    That were with us
    Through good and bad.
    I love dog
    that memory
    and sentiment
    My tears wash over me
    For a love
    with no impediment
    Dog is good
    Dog is real
    I think all
    of you know
    how I feel.
    I love dog.
    He came to us
    When he was small
    My daughter thought
    He was our all
    So submissive and
    A joy to behold
    White stars on his paws
    And a creature to behold
    We fell in love
    From the start
    So incredibly cute
    It could break your heart
    Orion of the Night Sky
    Stars in on his feet
    And in our eyes
    We were in love”
    From the first time
    If there was a
    Dog star by name set
    It must have been
    From a one Orion met
    A love so great
    has never been felt
    For a dog, a pet
    Of devotion felt
    Orion of the Night Sky
    Stars in on his feet
    And in our eyes
    The best dog ever
    We live together
    and bide our time
    Because time is nigh.

My dog Meeshka, 14 now and got her as a rescue when she was 3. A bit blind and deaf now, but so am I - so we are a good pair. Loves fishing and boat rides, but we don't walk the rivers together anymore. And a perfect campnig companion (we get about 30 days a year) where she has proclaimed herself protector of the site from ravens, and rogue squirrels.

I've never been much of a small dog person. Usually have had labs. But this little rescued girl is super smart, and won me over. And a she's good rabbit hunter. bonnie1.png

Just an update photo of my exercise guru. IMG_20171104_080902050_HDR.jpg

Skip, I was mostly a Lab guy but my youngest daughter brought home a rescue Beagle. She had some health issues, but I loved to hear her "go off" baying at the squirrels daring to enter the yard. She was all in baby! I miss her more than I thought I would.
