What are y'all's favorite rods for salmon and steelhead?
Redington CPS 9 wt
Sage XP 8 wt
Gloomis GL3 7 wt
Hell, I'm from Marblemount. Pitchfork works in all water levels and all species and if you break it, you can pick anuther one up at the Darrington "you can do it!" center. No waiting for 3 months for that rod tip on the rod that costs more than your first truck.
Disclaimer: That was a joke. I do not, nor have I ever nor will I ever (well barring senility) use a pitchfork for catching anything other than hatchery salmon/steelhead. I, Monk reserve the right to abstain from liability for any and all actions resulting in the posting of this response. If you are fishing for wild fish, read the regulations carefully and make sure you understand them so that you do not break the law while fishing for wild salmon/steelhead. buy me a beer.
Mello custom 10' 8wt. Dan Craft blank, fuji ceramic eyes. yum yum. Oh and the Jungle Cock accent above the grip is sooooo smooth.
One with a big bend in it.
Does your wife know about the big bend yet?
Why do you think she is my wife?
Not according to the female population...but thgen again you do live over there in the OP...or I would assume from your response.
Back to matters.
Sage DS or DS2 9'0 7 weight 4 piece will suffice for most...and will also become a favorite because you did not spend 600 bones on it....so now you can occasionally drop it..bend it against brush...scrape against rocks..etc. top that off with a Ross Gunnison 3 you are set for a life of dependaple equipment that doesn't need to be carried in a foam filled peanut case...Even Bob T. has to admit to this...but the rod preference might be different for him......but he probably would not be second guessing an outfit like this....Maybe 8 weight?
South Bend #47-9
My favorite rods, can't say they are the best!!!!
10ft 7wt Sage XP (IF i have to use the single handers).
9.5ft 8wt Sage XP
14ft, 7wt (7141) Sage
15ft, 8/9 (9150) Sage
I use 2-hand rods exclusively for steelhead summer and winter. Lengths and line wts are:
And the rods are from Loomis, T&T, and Meiser
How is landing fish on a two handed rod? I always wonder with that much length.
Here we go again...
There is no best, but different.
My primary rods are:
G Loomis GLX Classic 10' 8wt 4pc for Steelhead
TFO Ticr 9' 9wt 4pc for Salmon.
Sage Xi2 8 wt., GLoomis GLX Classic 4 pc. 8 wt. overlined by 1 wt.
