I'm also getting this rod to replace my SAGE tcx Deathstar 7 weight that was stolen. I had the FIST head on the tcx and loved it.

Is everyone in agreement that the 510 is the proper grain weight?

Hi. Sorry I forgot to close the loop. The airflo compact I got in 510 is nice. I'm new to Spey. It feels heavy but is probably helping me load the rod easier and it more forgiving in that sense. I would guess a pro would be comfortable with a 475. The 510 shoots like a missle

Both the 6/7 and 7/8 Aero work well, 475-500 skagits, 450 scandi.

Wait, I'm confused.. So the Arrowhead is good and Aerohead not so much?

I may have said that I prefer the delta in another thread for bad wind and the ability to throw tips. But the aerohead/arrowhead is a great line, it's currently what I'm using on my CND 5/6/7.

Great to hear the little CND Black is still working well for you.

The recently updated (color only?) Aerohead is now offered in a 5/6 version.. 410gr @ 41 feet. Should be very nice: https://beulah-fly-rods.myshopify.com/collections/lines/products/aerohead-line

I've also been a fan of the Delta.. could never understand WHY it was never manufactured in 5/6 class, gotta believe would have been an instant hit. Lee Davidson's light Ballistic lines filled that void though so all is good.

    Scifidelity,

That particular rod is a favorite among the Beulah guys and they have the line recommendations dialed. Travis Johnson, reigning world spey casting champion, is one of the guys providing recommendations! As far as lines sold by a rod company goes I understand your reluctance, but I can say from very extensive experience (I've worked on grain window development and specific line recommendations for two manufacturers) with just about every line on the market that Beulah lines are outstanding, as good or better than anything on the market.

And, in case you are interested, with the exception of the Aerohead which was designed by Travis Johnson, they are designed by Beulah (specifically Bruce Berry) and all manufactured by Scientific Anglers. Their website is exactly the right place to start looking for lines on that rod. If you want even more details contact Bruce Berry, the Beulah Northwest rep, and pick his brain. Great guy and very knowledgeable.

Thanks for that! I agree, it's a honey of a rod. Perfect length for summer and fall steel, for where I fish anyway. I won't be parting with it anytime soon.
