This is one of those weird bugs you come across from time to time.

A few years ago, I was fishing a Valley lake. Trout were taking midges and I couldn't seem to match the suckers. I finally captured a live bug and found it was dark brown with red ribbing. Odd. I had no midge emergers in that color combination. So, I tied up some of these guys and they worked the next day.

I'd never seen a brown midge emerger with red ribbing before so this was new for me. Nowadays I carry patterns in brown and red just in case I run into them again.

The body material is dark brown New Dub. The rib is medium size red wire. I use flat antron for the gills and also the shellback... because I can. The thorax is red ostrich.

You never know what strange color combinations you're going to run into when it comes to aquatic insects.
