Nets are for trout!!! :thumb: and they make some really decent ones now that won't harm the fish like the aluminum blue rope ones you see some poor fool humping up and down the river at least once each year...(normally with his tackle box too, yikes) Most if not all C & R research is a total C & R meaning they count gear as well...Gear fishing increases the mortality by I would guess at least 2-3%. I can tell you of one pretty un scientific study..A guy I know does high school fly fishing classes and competitions..He wanted to use one of those fish ponds where you catch and pay for fish for one of them...The owner was pretty wary of fly fishing and said he wanted him to bring one of his classes out and take each fish caught and put them in another pool to see how many survived...They took out 100 fish and after a week 1 of them died...The owner now lets them hold their comps. there and welcomes fly guys...If you figure high school kids learning to fly fish can have these kind of numbers then I think most experienced guys could be possibly lower? Like others have said, the fish are tougher then they are given credit for and if you release them properly I would bet on around 1-2% for fly fishing....IMHO that is!!!
