Made a trip up to Cranberry yesterday to scratch a fishing itch. Only one taken but to my surprise, it was an 18" largie. Sorry about the pics but it was pretty awkward trying to snap a photo with one hand. The net is 18" in diameter if it helps. Fishing was slow to say the least. But beautiful conditions!
Prespawn status. What'd ya catch 'em on? We used to tear em up down in FL on big poppers around this time of year, though the water temp is probably in the high 50s down there.
I was using a creation that's been my rainbow/brown go-to fly for awhile... I call it "beaded bok choy." Rabbit, flashabou, bead, legs, and a braided body material with "special properties..." First experimented with it at Leech Lake; ended up catching 25 of the big planters in two days. Funny thing was the little cutts hardly bothered it at all and the brookies basically ignored it. I guess too foreign-looking for them (no pun intended...).
Brookies on Whidbey Wot?
Doesn't matter...nice pig in mid winter Much less a bass in February ?...Awesome!
Just goes to show, doesn't matter what time of year...all fish have to eat something...even in winter.
Nice catch!!!!!
I'm actually getting pretty anxious to hit Campbell Lake once it warms a bit more next month. I've got some rather ugly creations I've been wanting to try on bass...
