    Gonna hit some blue lines in 2 weeks full of stupid cutts that love orange.


    hook - Dai Riki 280 #10
    thread - UTC 6/0 pumpkin orange
    tail - golden pheasant tippets
    rib - Flashabou gold
    abdomen - dubbing orange
    wingpad/head - 2mm foam orange
    thorax - deer hair spun/clipped
    feelers - deer hair tips

    mash barb, start thread, wrap to point above barb

    cut out center stem of GP feather

    fold together, measure (gap width past bend), tie in/trim butts

    tie in rib

    [​IMG]


    dub abdomen up to 60% mark

    [​IMG]


    counterwrap rib; tie off/trim

    [​IMG]


    tie in foam strip (1/2 gap width)

    clean/trim a bunch of deer hair and spin

    clean, stack, measure (extend 1.5 hook gap past eye) another clump; tie in, spin

    trim out hair on top/pull foam forward and tie down at eye

    fold foam over eye (equal to wing pad); tie down

    half hitch x 2, SHHAN, trim thorax, trim foam

    It looks like a skater, but how is it meant to be fished?

    I can't speak for ScottP but I do skate them for steelhead and I believe the pattern was designed with that in mind. Surely you could dead drift them like any other dry fly though.

    you're both right; it's just a scaled down version of Taylor Gerath's steelhead skater.
