Are there any of you Spokane area guys that can give me a heads-up when the ice gets off of the lake? I want to get down there as soon as is practical with my pram and bring home a limit of those big crappies. And if you have some time, I would be agreeable to fishing together and figuring out what is the hot ticket for those fish. I don't know the lake very well as I have only fished it twice. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks guys, I'm sure it is still frozen but things are happening fast given the mild weather we are having. Dustin, fishing together sounds good, can you go on weekdays? Two rods would be nice as it helps to shorten the learning curve plus it is nice to have someone to commiserate with should the fishing be lame.
Do you eat crappies? I have a killer recipe for fillets that will put a big smile on your face.
Ive, Eloika is beautiful, ice free, weed free (relatively speaking for Eloika), t-shirt weather, boats on the water, 8-10 people fishing the banks, looks ready to go!
Mike, Excellent! Thanks for the report. I'll be in town this week to pick up a new trolling motor and shortly after that be on the water. Crappie terror for sure.
dear ive,
dont know who youve been talking to but the lake is only a little over half open still. Ive been fishing the lake for the past week or so for bass . If your intrested in catching crappie they usually dont start biting till may at the earliest and then bite all summer long. Ive been fishing Eloika for the past 26yrs and have lived out here almost that long. When you start fishing them use a small white or white and yellow crappie jig with a stand-up bobber about 24 inches down and cast out and reel in slow stopping every now and then fish out and around the openings in the weeds. The weeds right now are fairly bad for this time of year cause the water hasnt come up yet. Usually the ice isnt off the lake till the end of March or April. You wont catch crappie this early in the year the water is way to cold for them. let me know if i can help you out with anything else. craig
You still have my interest peaked for Eloika , and more so for a good recipe as we talked about before . Eloika is close for me, i have been driving by it the past few weeks going skiing and it still looked frozen in spots , sounds as if april may might be better . keep me posted , what trolling motor did you pick up ? I am assuming for the PRAM .
Ed and Craig, I guess I am the one Ive has been talking to, as you can see from my post above.
I went to the public launch on Eloika Saturday and didn't see a spot of ice. Obviously I can't see all the way north, and I didn't drive around to Jerry's, but as far as the eye could see it was free and clear. There were boats on the water, 10 or so fisherman on the bank, and my girls and I threw rocks for 30 minutes. I have no report on the fishing action, but it was a beautiful day and I have caught a lot of fish (mostly bass) on Eloika in the early season. I certainly have not fished it for 26 years, but looked like a beautiful day to be out to me. Nothing would stop me from hitting the water if I was inclined.
Mike
