    Why settle for one layer of foam goodness when you can have three? Change colors/size to suit your needs.


    hook - Dai Riki 280 #6
    thread - UTC 140 tan
    underbody - Ice Dub hare's ear
    body - 2mm foam tan, brown, dark brown
    wing - Congo Hair grey
    legs - medium rubber barred tan

    mash barb, start thread

    dub underbody, finish a little bit forward of the barb

    taper foam (gap width); tie in (extend back gap width)

    tie in a hank of CH

    [​IMG]


    fold back, tie down 2nd foam strip

    tie in legs

    [​IMG]


    add a bit of dubbing and wrap forward (forgot to dub at first tie-in; optional)

    pull foam forward and tie down

    [​IMG]


    tie in another hank of CH

    fold back, tie down 3rd foam strip

    add front legs

    a little dubbing

    trim wings, legs, head

    looks like a Fletcher class DD laying a smoke screen

    Nice fly. When do these work? I have had no luck using chubbies.

    Mike,

    This one's tied to (kinda) imitate a short-wing stonefly; there's a couple streams in MT where I see the shucks on the shoreside rocks throughout the summer. I've had a bit of luck with standard Chubbies but this one should float even better.
