I live at least 2.5 hours from decent fishing (American River in Sacramento - ughh!!), and 3-3.5 hours if I want a shot at a nice fish in a non-urbanized setting. Yes, it sucks. But what's worse is that to get to these locations near dawn I have to leave my house by 3:30AM at the absolute latest. The night before one of these trips I'm wound up so tight with anxiety about missing my alarm that I can't sleep at all. This leads to a less than enjoyable experience overall, and can be downright dangerous as I'm driving home in the dark on little to no sleep. With a 2 year old at home I get to go fishing one day a month tops, and I hate to see the experience ruined by anxiety based insomnia. Does anyone else go through this? How do you deal with it?
