Here is the deal. I've been in a handful or more swaps. All have gone pretty well for me with flies sent and received in a timely fashion. Many of you have sent me flies in swaps that far outclass my own and for that I'm grateful. This swap, should you choose to enter it has a few twists. It is not my intention to omit anyone from any location or any skill level. I, for the record, am a beginner as a fly tyer having gotten a bit better over time due to swaps.

The ground rules. You must tie one fresh water and one salt water patter of your choice that is a proven fly or one that you know others to have fished to success. There will be no less than six tyers or this swap will not happen. There will be no more than twelve tyers. You will be on the hook then for tying between twelve and twenty four flies. If twenty four is too much let me know and we can lower the limit of tyers as needed.

There will be no postage paid to the United States Postal Service. (No offense to my friend here on the site who works dutifully for the USPS, but they are not that kind to me). The face to face part is that we will meet approximately one month from the filling of the fly tier spots, face to face as the thread implies. The meeting place will be somewhere in Kitsap County, I live far north and maybe a more central location like Poulsbo, Silverdale or Bremerton will be decided upon. The date and time will also be decided upon, hopefully through the ongoing banter of the tyers in the swap.

I will select something for the best freshwater and saltwater patterns and hand that off to the tyer of that particular fly. You can tie up all the bonus flies you want for me to try, I need all the dang help I can get.

I am doing this as my duty to host, as I have not yet done so. To encourage meeting of those of us connected in the virtual world, and maybe even to buy you all a beverage.

Thus far, one all ages friendly place that has done well for Kitsap area fly fishermen and tyers has been Voodies in downtown Poulsbo. I will open the thread with this being the location where we will meet, exchange flies, lies and toss one back. (again this is an all ages place until 8pm if I'm not mistaken).

Are you up to putting a face and handshake to your screen name?

Discalaimer: Sorry to all those who have taught me so much but are too far to make this feasible for you to do a face to face. If you insist on joining, we will not exclude you but let us make this some good prep for the upcoming freshwater openers that some sites will soon have, anticipation of bountiful runs in the salt and a chance to eyeball one another over a drink.

So, given that you have read this far...who the hell is in?

That is it. We are FULL. Put FRIDAY May 15th at 6:30pm Doc's Marina Grill http://www.docsgrill.com/ Sorry for the late change of plans, but Viking Fest activities in downtown Poulsbo forces reconsideration. Walk on ferry passengers can easily walk to Doc's in a few minutes. Ed

Great work kelvin...see that gang, kelvin is done. I have tied three conehead tube baitfish so far. I think they will fish nice, but I'm not nearly done like kelvin.

Wow Kelvin, could you tie my share as well. :clown: I think you just broke the fly swap speed record! Since this is your first one, let me give you some advise. Next time PROCRASTINATE! fiddle around for the month or so, tie one or two. Then at the last minute tie them all and post that they are going to be late. You'll do better next time I'm sure. :clown:

Good work I can't wait to fish them!

Now i have to figure out what the hell I'm gonna do. Ed gimme some ideas tomorrow. :beer2:

I'm thinking you guys might be stuck with some genuine Popsicle Sticks and some Calibaetis Emergers for you lake fisherman... although I haven't fully decided. At least I know they catch fish! Or are you looking for some fancy shit? :D

Larry, fly swaps organized by guys like me are done in the attempt to meet folks and catch fish. Keep your ultra fancy non fish catching patterns for the best in show contests. Tie us up some fish catching bugs please.
I don't know Mumbles, if memory serves me right Larry has posted about some epic days using his "popsicle" and I for one will be happy to take yours if you don't want it.

Matt, you are not seriously thinking you are coming all the way over here to fish expecting that I've got anything to teach you are you? You had better rethink that plan. By the time I arrive, well after you as we've discussed, you had better have it figured out or there will be some really funny stuff to post tomorrow night.

Easy there Rob! Larry was speaking humbly of his popsicle fly as if it were not fancy or something. I'm looking forward to that fly very much.

Decided what you are tying?

Heads up. There is nothing fancy about the "Popsicle Stick", however, if you play with the pattern yourselves, add some eyes, or fancy dubbing you could probably improve it. I don't have time at the moment.....going fishing! I'm going to tie it on Size 4 for the up and coming larger coho, but I was using 8's and 6's on the smaller resident coho and cutts this winter. So don't be disappointed guys... If you DON'T catch coho on this, then I will give you a fly fishing lesson.

Sweet Larry, I might take you up on the offer of a fly fishing lesson!! Especially casting! Mine single handed casts lately have been atrocious!! I have tied up versions of your popsicle, but honestly haven't fished them much. I found a nice streamer pattern that the SRC loved last year...I will be tying it up for ya'll. Haven't decided on what the second one will be yet. Maybe just and EHC, as I think I've caught more trout on that than anything else. But still not sure yet. Since I am fairly new to the flyfishing thing I don't have many go-to patterns.

I'm still working on tying the flies for my upcoming dry-side excursion. Have yet to decide what to tie for this swap. I had Skip Morris show me some patterns the other day - I will probably tie one of those for trout. No idea about the salt yet.

I'm envious of your upcoming trip Eastward. Tie you weapons well for that location, you'll have ample time to whip some nice flies out for this swap when you get back...after posting a killer report of course.

How is the progress all? Any teaser photos? Patterns planned?

David...one fresh water pattern and one salt water pattern. Pretty simple for all that crap I typed in the first post of the thread.

#72 ·
My progress report....zero flies tied.

But I did finally decide what I'm going to tie.
-krystal flash baitfish
-Skykomish sunrise...a "classic" proven fly, but I've never fished it (I will now though :D).

I wanted to tie up some pick'yer pockets because I had some success (a couple LDR's) with it on the N. Santiam last summer, but I couldn't find the exact material list. Also, I'm not exactly sure how to tie it, but I assume it is similar to the intruder.

Guess I'll start tying, now that the hard part is over ;)

I will chime in too. I also have not tied a damn thing. But here is what you're gonna get.

For the salt, Thorne River Emerger and fresh will be the "Magic Chiro" I'm gonna try to get at least two per person, if I get real motivated I will tie them in different colors but don't hold your breath.
