Anyone have any chartplotter recommendations or brands/models to avoid?
I would stay away from raymarine(used to be raytheon) I allways hear our electronics guy bitchin about them.
If you're looking for something for salt water, get hold of a Weems and Plath Yeoman Navigator. It combines a paper chart with gps, is easy to use, and has the advantage of the paper chart you can write on. I love ours, but we only use it on our big boat and it doesn't locate any fish, only your boat on the chart. It makes my long-distance navigation a snap, and really shines when I'm entering a strange harbor.
