The State stocks this lake a couple of times a year. It is a big lake, big enough for float planes, and motorboats. I have seldom seen anyone fishing the lake and am curious as to this as a fly fishing option given the size of the lake.

Never fished it, but I've heard from a few people who do. There are holdovers, but they are sometimes hard to find. Most fish it right after the stocking truck arrives. This last time the state put some really nice fish in there.

I think I have fished it in the past. About 50 years or so ago. Doesn't it have a small island in the middle of it. I used to fish lakes before is discovered Skinny water.

It's a lake in the middle of Fidalgo Island with an island in the middle of the lake.
I've fished it in the past, lets say distant past, 35+ years ago for trout and more recently, 25 years ago for LM. bass.

The last few years, I've wondered about the lake while climbing at Mt. Erie (right above the lake). I finally decided to fish it this year. Unfortunately, it's completely barren. I fished a lot of barren lakes this year, actually. I'm not sure how I keep choosing so poorly. How the fish all die between the spring plants and my days off, I'll never know. If anyone else should find the lake to be barren, it's at least worth a 10 minute drive up mt. Erie to take a picture of the island within a lake on an island, even if the lake itself is barren. Just don't kick any rocks down! The viewpoint is at the top of a climbing route.

One day I was climbing at Erie and ran into a coven(?) Of witches casting spells over the land. I assumed at the time they were good witches casting protective spells, but I've since realized that they were, in fact, bad witches and they hexed the lake below.

Or maybe they hexed you? Have you caught fish anywhere else since then?

I was driving past the lake yesterday and for the first time actually saw someone in a small boat trolling the lake by Rt 20 shoreline. What a surprise. Now I still would like to know why Fish and Game plants trout in this lake if few use it. It is a shame they didn't dump the 40,000 steelhead here instead of in Cranbury Lake. At least the comorants would have had more of a challenge filling their guts!

A lake full of fish with no crowds on it, and that's a problem?

I stayed right by the lake while working up that way in May. Many evenings on my way home after work I'd pass the lake and see all kinds of surface activity. Never fished it but seeing fish rising on an empty lake always catches my attention
