Never fished Hazel Creek, but I have fished the Hazel River, which judging by the pics I've seen is smaller than Hazel Creek; huh? There are recipes calling for yellow body and mixed brown/grizzly hackle but liked the badger/chartreuse combo; besides, my yellow Uni-stretch seems to have gone missing.

hook - Mustad 94840 #14
thread - UTC 70 chartreuse
tail - golden pheasant tippet
abdomen - Uni-stretch chartreuse
hackle - badger
wing - hen hackle tips cream

mash barb, start thread at 60% (defines the limits of the abdomen) and wrap back to point above barb

measure a clump of pheasant fibers (hook shank); tie in (I put a wrap under the butts to set the proper angle), smooth butts and wrap thread to 70% mark

take a pair of hen hackle tips (= to gap width), put them together with the tips curving away from each other, measure for length (entire hook); tie in at 70% mark

trim butts, smooth with thread; pull wings up/back and wrap in front to set the proper angle (I try to avoid Figure 8 wraps between the tips - a little bit of Sally at the base, plus the natural curvature usually keeps them separated)

tie in the Uni-stretch and wrap abdomen up to 60% mark; tie off/trim

move thread in front of wing and tie in hackle

wrap hackle (I like to take the first turn in front of wing, second right behind for a bit more wing stabilization); tie off, trim, half hitch x2, SHHAN

full frontal
