how to tell type of wood I am building a reel seat out of

    This may sound funny but I found a couple pieces of wood in my shop to make some reel seat inserts out of. Problem is it turned out really nice and I want to get some more and I have no idea exactly what kind of wood it is. I thought it was Koa wood but I took out my rod that had a Koa wook seat insert and this is a lot darker than that so I'm not so sure anymore. Does anyone know where I could take a piece of wood (in the Seattle area) and have someone tell me what kind of wood this is?

    I'm by no means an expert, but perhaps take a picture and post it here? One of the rod builders might be able to help you out.

    Crosscut hardwoods down in the SoDo district should be able to tell you whatever you want to know, they sell hardwoods, softwoods, exotics etc.
