Hunting Rifle Advice

I am considering picking up a rifle. The likely use is bear and varmint but I'd like to consider inexpensive and durable options that could be used for deer, elk and who knows what I may try to hunt in years to come.

Your advice is appreciated.

Budget is small.
Backpacking in over road hunting, so weight is a consideration.

Could possibly trade a handgun. Let's discuss that option in a message.

Bingo, very few game animals are shot from shooting benches, A skilled hunter needs to know what shots are with in thier ability& what shots not to take as they are bad angles or plain out of the shooters kill range. Hunting in a lot of Washington means realistically 200 yards is about it as the trees& brush tend to block out the vital area on the animal pasted that range. A bad shot with a large caliber & heavy hitting rifle is still a bad shot at best.
