Hey all. I'm coming over to your side next weekend and at this point I'm planning on hitting the Kalama on Friday and Saturday of next weekend. Thus far, The Kalama looks like my best bet for steelhead. I would love to hook up with someone who knows the area, or would appreciate any advice on other steelhead options, i.e. special openings etc.. Advice will not go without reciprocation when you come my way:thumb: Adam

expect plenty of company on the kalama - springers are in and the meat hunters are in thick

It's a real easy river to read, check out the area around Pritchards, the red barn and the lower canyon, they've already got fresh summer run steelhead and the springers are there as well. There is some nice fly water that the gear guys seem to avoid, you can find it if you walk the trails along the river. check the latest hatchery escapement report on WDFW website for how many fish are at the hatcheries already.

    Good fishing,
    Coffee and trout

Sunday morning I counted 16 boat trailers at the put ins. Plus there were lots of cars with racks for pontoon boats. Even more discouraging, there were boats or ‘toons anchored in the middle of the prime runs visible from the road. Friday might be OK but Saturday is probably going to be as bad. Sorry, I’ve been out of the steelhead loop for awhile and can’t offer you a better option.

Just to clarify, there are no special openings on the Skagit, sauk, or other seattle waters right?

Their not steelhead anymore, their either spawning, or dying of exhaustion. People over here don't know the meaning of chrome.

The Kalama has been slow, even for the tackle guys. That being said, it can only get better (hopefully).
