THE SHAD ARE COMING.
Soon there will be thousands upon thousands.
MY BODY IS READY. IS YOURS?
I'm on my last couple mason jars of canned shad from last year. Time to start planning the harvest run.
What I'd like to know is how they counted negative 2 coho jacks... I knew some of our salmon stocks are in peril - but to be in the negative count column tells us just how bad it's become!
two words,.... Banjo Minnow....
looks like the Lamprey action is also heating up...
Let's not forget the pike minnow fisheries on the columbia
whats the limit on them bennysbuddy?
Are they edible?
Woolleylivers work good on them, I hear. Fleshflies too, I'd be willing to bet.
Read all about it at www.pikeminnow.org, most people turn them in for the bounty and then use the money to go out for a steak dinner.
Is that a good number? I've never watched the numbers roll up but I think I'll try to contact Evan and do it again this year. You can speycast for them, it worked for me last year and was a lot of fun. Right spot and right time and hookups can be fast and furious. Fun fish for sure!
The numbers so far don't mean much. They kind of get underway at a different time every year. Last year there were a lot more by now.
what line do you run on your spey rod? thinking a skagit int with some t-11 or t-14 to get close to the bottom. what size rod do you use? thanks in advance, also might be calling soon to order some slipstream jigs (Thanks Evan)
Run the lightest spey rod you can given the wind conditions. Last year, I ran my 4wt switch with a Rio streamer tip 7wt line. Actually worked really well. You don't need to cast that far out.
Thanks for the reply, bennysbuddy.
I'm a poster who's "posts" are often misunderstood. Your reply was a courteous one, and I respect you for that.
My question was meant to be "tongue in cheek", but I failed to come across that way.
I do wonder how they might taste though... probably a little bony!
Can Shad be caught using flies under an indicator?
