Launched out of Shilshole and crossed the Sound to fish SRC (yes, there are SRC outside of Area 13).
4 fish caught: 13", 11", 8", 8". I was glad to see the fish were all "clean" whereas before I've been seeing SRC in this area half covered with sea lice. Small pink Clousers, tan clousers, and Dehlia squid (conehead) were fished on Type 3 sink tips and also fished a minnow pattern popper (pictured) and a green Puget Sound Searcher (from the West Seattle flyshop).
No action at all on the top water, which was suprising given that it was an overcast day and I've had great success (lots of follows) at these locations before. I probably only saw 3 fish jump/roll all day. There was TONS of bait around...long thin silver bait about 4 inches long, maybe candlefish, in 3-12 feet of water. Also shiner perch looking baitfish too.
The Lithium battery on my trolling motor remote was unresponsive, I think due to a winter of a drained battery so I had a much harder time casting to the desired locations because of the strong wind and tidal current. The two larger fish were caught in about 4 feet of water on the leeward side of a point, about an hour before low tide (right where I'd expect cutthroat to be waiting to grab an easy snack from the tide).
Marine forecast was for 2 foot waves max, but the return home was all whitecaps...nothing terribly dangerous (16 foot boat with windshield, 60HP), but enough to get the heart racing a few times with a few suprisingly big waves. Had to do a quartering technique to get through the waves. Return speeds were 7 knots rather than the normal 25 knots.
I think I need to make the trek to MA 13, but the idea of slogging through Seattle and Tacoma and JBLM traffic with a trailer (both ways) is such a deterrent! I might need to just take a Seattle ferry to the Peninsula and hit MA 13 that way, although then its two ferries with a trailer.
