Didn't I already have your name on there?
Ok, we are full, now the details. I think it would be good to to tie two of the same pattern, that way folks have one to fish and one to keep if they want or one to fish and lose and another to tie on and fish again. With 12 of us you will need to tie 22 leeches up (I'm half way done) and send them to me with a self addressed stamped envelope by August 5th at the latest (don't make me come after you as a swapmeister, I'm a task master).
Now something special on this one; once the flies are all sent to me I will post pics and we will quickly vote on which one is you favorite (no voting for yourself). I will send the winner a few extra patterns of my design and a slip indicator. So the ante has been raised!
I like the idea of tying up two of each with one to display and one to fish. I think I'll incorporate that into my next swap (or just have the participants tie one extra for my own personal display )
I'm flexible but I thought was committing to tying one bug, double the bugs and time now will be iffy can make the deadline. Other things going now and can start tying mid July.
Fortunately these patterns are relatively easy to tie so shouuuld be able to make August deadline...I wont' be the first to deliver though. Already, got supplies but now need to doublecheck my hook count..
One bug a night and you are good. Now hooks are iffy, if all fails, tie one or two of your leeches on a slightly different hook.
I'm half done. I'm on vacation so plenty of time to sit at the vice. Black rabbit tail with UV blue pearl flash, black UV ice dub body with red wire rib, black barbell eyes, scud hook. Hard to keep it under an inch though.
I looked through my leech box and played around with some new dubbings but ended up going with simple, durable, and effective. I'm tying my version of a Glenn's Leech; black squirrel strip tail, wrapped black marabou body, red wire rib, and matte black bead. When the fish quit taking flashy patterns try this one.
If it is not under an inch I will be sending them back to you. I will have my ruler out and a fiber out of place will mean instant dismissal. Or better yet, out come the scissors and I will butcher that thing down. Ok, ok I might give you an inch and a sixteenth!
For those of you who don't know me well enough the above is meant to be sarcastic. The inch thing is a guideline indicating that these should be micro not macro.
got my jig hooks and tungsten beads in the mail just now. headed out fishin will work on a pattern ive been mulling over in a bit.
CANNON BEACH, OR.
A Kennewick, Wa man was taken to the local hospital today after he experienced convulsions today. Apparently he had eaten a whole box of Altoids and was suffering from peppermint oil overdose. Symptoms include tremor, seizure, slow heart rate, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. Apparently the overdose was intentional. "I bought a tin of Altoids because I needed the tin to send in some flies for a fly swap," he said. "Irafly has promised extra flies to the person who gets his flies in first, and he is a heckuva tier and fisherman. I left my Altoids tin at home and did not want to wait to send my finished flies in. So I bought a new tin and felt the need to empty it as quick as possible." The man was referred to the local mental health agency after he was treated and released.
Do I win Ira?
I don't have the flies yet Wayne, I don't have the flies yet. Just saying.
I'm not saying there is a winner yet, but I have two complete sets of flies in my possession. Who was first, who was first? Now one of those sets might also vie for best as well. I'll be taking both of my four flies with me when I fish Central Oregon in a week.
I think you should go by the postmark on the package? If It is still tied, then the best looking? I'm not cute but I've seen some of the avatars on this site. Just sayin...
One set is not post marked, I'll leave it a mystery.... but I will admit a good Altoid story could push someone over the edge.
Got started this past weekend and got a couple nice patterns going.
Deciding which one to double up on for the swap.
