Fished pass the last 5 days, very slow to say the least. Managed to land 3 fish all over 18'', one being an Atlantic Salmon. Seems the only thing that has worked is the standard issue black bugger. Fish seem to be holding in the deeper water right now, especially during the heat of the day.
I've caught atlantics from Pass, but it's been at least 7 or 8 years since I've caught one. It's pretty hard to deterimine what it is from the photo. But it sure is a NICE fish.
It was completely crome, I thought rainbows at least had a little crimson stripe through them. Who knows, I could be wrong, but i have caught plenty of rainbows and none of them have looked like this.
My guess would be that you caught a triploid rainbow. Since they are sterile and will never mature sexually, triploids usually retain the coloration of what the Canadians call a "maiden fish". I've caught many triploids showing no more trace of a pink stripe than would a fresh-run summer steelhead. To the best of my knowledge, WDFW no longer raises or stocks Atlantic salmon.
